Atomica released in selected theatres

Atomica (Previously named Deep Burial and then Half Life) is a project Dominic Monaghan filmed about 4 years ago, and he is also listed as an Executive Producer. Syfy films have picked it up for release this year! The film is directed by Dagen Merrill (“Beneath,” “Broken Hill,” “Murder in the Dark”) and written by Kevin Burke (“Ultimate Spider-Man,” Marvel’s “Avengers Assemble,” “Beneath”), Fred Fernandez-Armesto and Adam Gyngell.

In the near future, when communications go offline at a remote nuclear power plant isolated in the desert, a young safety inspector, Abby Dixon, is forced to fly out to bring them back online. Once inside the facility, mysterious clues and strange behaviors cause Abby to have doubts about the sanity, and perhaps identities, of the two employees onsite.

It was released on Friday 17th March in selected theatres (including the Arena Cinelounge at the Montalban in Los Angeles and the Cinema Village in NYC). And will be available on VOD and Digital HD on March 21!

In the wake of the release, Dom did a lot of interviews to promote the film:

Screenanarchy: In this interview Dom talks about how he became involved with the project, and how much fun he had playing a wacky character in a minimalist science fiction film.

The Wrap: Dom explains a bit more about the plot and the filming location (an actual abandoned underground nuclear silo in Washington). Visit the link to watch the video!

Entertainment Voice: Both Dom and his co-star Sarah Habel were interviewed and they talked about being isolated while filming, how they can relate to their characters, and what projects are up next for both of them.

SCREAM magazine: interviewed Sarah Habel about what it was like to work with Dominic Monaghan!

Fangoria: Spoke to both Sarah and Dominic about the plot, their characters and the chemistry on set.

After an online press screener of the film, there are a few reviews out there including from Nightmarish Conjurings (“some strong performances help keep the forward momentum on this minimalist science fiction thriller”), Horror Buzz (“A high point is Monaghan’s performance as Robbinson”), Action Elite (“if you are a fan of sci-fi thrillers, you should put Atomica on your list of movies to see”) and Pop Horror (“As far as acting, Dominic Monaghan stole the show”).
