It has just been officially announced that Dominic Monaghan, as well as Orphan Black actress Ksenia Solo, iCarly’s Jennette McCurdy and Nathan Parsons of The Originals will be starring in indie horror thriller Pet.
Written by Jeremy Slater, the dark, twisted love story, “Pet” follows Seth, an animal shelter employee, who develops an infatuation with Holly, the waitress he has admired since high school. After failing to impress her through conventional methods, Seth resorts to a rather unusual solution: locking her up in a cage at the shelter where he works. However, we soon discover that Holly is far from perfect, harboring deeply troubling secrets of her own. It quickly becomes hard to tell who the real victim is. The project is said to be tonally in the vein of Gone Girl and Hard Candy.
The project has been in the works since about 2007, when it was first set up at MGM. Dominic Monaghan has been intent on making the feature since at least 2008.
Carles Torrens, who directed the 2012 horror film Apartment 143, is behind the camera for the movie, which began production this week and is a co-production between Revolver Picture Company and Spanish company Magic Lantern. Torrens is producing alongside Revolver’s Nick Phillips and Kelly Martin Wagner. Revolver was involved in horror movies such as Haunt and Beneath.
